How to Use Dual Projector Systems

Purpose

This document provides step-by-step instructions for using a dual-projector classroom AV system, including routing one or more video sources to the left projector, right projector, or both projectors.

Scope

This document applies to Palomar College rooms equipped with two displays and a button or touch-screen AV control panel. Dual-projector systems can route different video sources to separate displays at the same time.

Procedure

Step 1 - Turn On the AV System

From the button or touch-screen control panel, press the power button to turn on the AV system.

Step 2 - Select a Source and Destination

The AV system defaults to the built-in PC and displays it on both projectors.

To use another source, select the source button on the left side of the touch screen, such as Document Camera, Solstice Pod, HDMI, Mini DP, or USB-C.

Select the destination at the top of the screen: Left Projector, Both, or Right Projector.

You can route different video sources to the two projectors at the same time. For example, display the PC on the left projector and an HDMI laptop on the right projector.

Some previous-generation AV control systems require you to select the destination first and then select the source.

Step 3 - Connect an External Device

Connect the laptop, USB-C enabled smartphone, or tablet using the appropriate connection.

Select the matching source on the control panel, then select the projector destination.

If no video signal is detected, verify that the external device is powered on and connected correctly.

Step 4 - Use Wireless Sharing with Solstice Pod

Where available, select Solstice Pod as the source on the touch screen.

Select the desired projector destination and follow the on-screen instructions to begin wireless video casting.

Solstice Pod supports Windows 10, Apple OSX, Android, and iOS devices.

Linux and ChromeOS are not supported by Solstice at this time.

Step 5 - Control Audio in Individual / Matrix Mode

Use the main volume slider on the right side of the screen to adjust room volume.

When the system is in individual or matrix mode, use Send Audio to choose which video source sends audio to the main speakers.

Keep the volume on each source device, such as the PC or HDMI laptop, set to 100% for proper audio gain structure.

Step 6 - Temporarily Mute the Projector

If available, press Video Mute to temporarily stop displaying the projected image without turning off the AV system.

Use Video Mute again to restore the projected image.

Note: The AV system turns off after 15 minutes of inactivity as an energy-saving feature.

Step 7 - Turn Off the AV System

When finished, press System Off on the touch screen.

Confirm the AV system shuts down before leaving the room.
