How to Use a Hyflex Classroom AV System
Purpose
This document provides step-by-step instructions for using a Hyflex classroom AV system, including the PTZ camera, lectern microphone, Microsoft Teams, Zoom, and Extron touch-panel controls.
Scope
This document applies to Palomar College classrooms equipped with a Hyflex AV system. Hyflex classrooms use a PTZ (Pan/Tilt/Zoom) camera and a fixed lectern boundary microphone to support in-room and distance learning.
Procedure
Step 1 - Turn On the AV System
From the lectern touch-screen control panel, press the power button to turn on the AV system.

Step 2 - Choose Whether to Use Hyflex
When the touch panel asks whether you need to use the camera and microphone, select Yes or No based on your session needs.

Step 3 - Confirm the Lectern PC and Hyflex Controls
The AV system defaults to the lectern Windows PC.
The PTZ camera and microphone are connected to the Windows PC and can be used as the primary camera and microphone for Zoom, Teams, and similar applications.
On the PC selection page, locate the Camera Control and Microphone Control buttons.
Note: The Windows PC has two USB cameras connected: the PTZ camera and the standard document camera.

Step 4 - Start Your Teleconferencing Application
From the Windows desktop, open your teleconferencing application, such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom.
Before the session begins, verify the camera, microphone, and speaker selections in the application.
Step 5 - Configure Microsoft Teams
In Microsoft Teams, select the three dots (More options) in the upper-right area.
Select Settings and then Devices.
Under Audio devices, set Speaker to Extron HDMI.
Set Microphone to Jack Mic (Realtek).
Set Camera to AVer CAM520 Pro2 (PTZ Camera).

Step 6 - Configure Zoom Audio
In Zoom, select the up arrow next to the Microphone/Mute button in the lower-left corner.
Set Microphone to Jack Mic.
Set Speaker to Extron HDMI for the Extron AV system speakers.
Mac note: On Hyflex systems with a lectern Mac, select “Built-in Microphone - External Microphone.”

Step 7 - Configure Zoom Video
In Zoom, select the up arrow next to the Stop Video/Camera button in the lower-left corner.
Select Video Settings.
For the PTZ camera, select AVer CAM520 Pro2.
To use the document camera instead, select USB AVer Camera.
Enable HD to use the full camera resolution.
Note: You can switch between the PTZ camera and document camera when you need to share close-up images or documents. Enable HD so whiteboard content is legible to online students.

Step 8 - Control the PTZ Camera from the Extron Touch Panel
On the PC page of the Extron touch panel, select Camera Control.
Use the Pan/Tilt/Zoom controls to adjust the camera view.
Use the camera presets to quickly move to common fixed positions.
Camera to Lectern: Returns the camera to the lectern position.
Zoom Out to Class: Shows a wider classroom view for discussion or active learning.
Whiteboard Left / Whiteboard Right: Moves the camera to the corresponding whiteboard area.

Step 9 - Control the Lectern Microphone
On the PC page of the Extron touch panel, select Microphone Control.
Use the microphone volume control to adjust the lectern boundary microphone.
Select Mute when the microphone should not send classroom audio.
Adjust the microphone volume or mute it as needed based on feedback from online students.
About the microphone: The omnidirectional boundary microphone is installed on top of the lectern and is designed to pick up voices around the room.
